OK Go on Kimmel & Carson
OK Go will appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Dec. 21st and Last Call with Carson Daly on Dec. 15th. If you're anywhere near Los Angeles, you can be there in person to watch the boys rock the pants off their television hosts. Mr. Kimmel tapes his show the 4th (get tix here) and Mr. Carson tapes his on the 7th (get tix here). Enjoy.

Great! Great! Great! Another live performance from OkGo! Can't wait. Also folks/fans check out OkGo's Payless Shoes commercial that I caught on TV today quite by accident. Knocked my socks (or shoes) off. Included among the shoes and hot chicks trying on clothing, the boys are singing "You're so Damn Hot". And catch Damian's "Oh" at the end of the commercial. Okay so I am melting... You can see the commercial on line at payless.com. I love this rock band!!!!

Okay...don't take this the wrong way because I LOVE YOU GUYS TO DEATH but I saw you on channel one today and was a little worried. Please don't sell out! I love you and I will continue to love your music as long as you produce smashing songs! But I'm really worried about this popularity thing! I'm happy for you but... I just don't want OK Go to be the next Greenday!!!!

dear worried fan.
i feel ya.
however, don't let what you like be dependent on what others like. don't choose a band just because you think you're being unique/original. continue to love ok go for their fantastic music and not whether they are on commercials or not. it means they've made it and we should be happy.

dear worried fan:

Consider this: If Mozart lived today, he would quite possibly be reviled as a sell-out.

OK Go does enough support for worthy causes like City Kids for me, personally, to not get too wound about their commercial endorsements (although Best Buy REALLY needs to improve their customer service- sorry guys, but it is true).

For me, what made me cross over from "yea they do cool music" to going all pan-metaphysical willing to walk on live coals and throw spare change their direction, was Damian's ballsy (yea, ballsy!) "Bands Fire Bush" when the rest of the world was going all* milquetoast and obsequious.

Music reflects what is in the artist's heart and soul. If the heart and soul have sold-out, no amount of technical virtuousity will save it. IF the heart and soul are rich, the music will transcend even crass commercialism.

This post is waaaay too long, but I hope it made you smile.

*Sorry if my colloquial choice of words is giving you fits. I'm more of a linguist, not a uber-wound English teacher. Language is a tool, not a straitjacket.

I love OkGo any way possible, any day of the week, whether it is in a live performance stage show, youtube, music television, live television performance, or a commercial. Thank you guys for all that you do and for your GREAT music! You ROCK!

I hope you do actually rock their pants right off. That would be amusing to see, if I could actually watch it. I don't have TV right now and I live far, far away from Los Angeles, but I'll be there in spirit.

I couldn't find the commercial on the payless site, by the way. Can someone tell me where else I could find it online?

OK Go, how could you? I loved you. You were sweet and viral and mine, all mine. And then you go and do a spot on Channel One. Channel One! Granted, Damian and Tim pulled it off with as much cool as humanly possible when publicity-hunting. But still. Did you think no one was going to find out? Well, it is going to take some very synchronized dancing for me to forgive you all.
